The AICA purebred herdbook is open to animals of 31/32 Charolais breeding. The Association does offer a breeding up program beginning with a foundation dam or sire. Male offspring from the first cross are not recordable. Male calves must be 3/4 Charolais to be recorded. The AICA also handles all registrations and recordations for Charbray. Animals qualify as Charbray with the % makeup of 5/8 to 13/16 Charolais and 3/8 to 3/16 Brahman. Within the purebred registry special prefixes are available. They are Full French, American French, Verified Polled, and Red Factor. All must meet certain criteria. The AICA has easy step-by-step instructions for its registration forms. The registration applications available are a single sheet registration form and whole herd reporting form.
AICA Recordation of Foundation Animals
Up-breeding to purebred status can be accomplished in five crosses when starting with a purebred Charolais bull or female. Only female calves from a first cross are eligible for recordation. The herd book is closed to recordation of animals less than 1/2 Charolais. The foundation animal may be of any beef or dairy breed or a cross of breeds. A herd number should identify the foundation animal and the balance of breeding must be identified. When you are ready to record your first calf crop, heifers selected should be either branded or tattooed with a herd number. The herd number is any set of numbers you choose to tattoo or brand on the animal. The second and following crosses are automatically eligible for recordation as both the sire and the dam are already registered or recorded in AICA. Each cross must be recorded so that when 31/32 or purebred status is attained, the calf will be eligible for registration in the AICA purebred registry. |
