Understanding Fees — from June/July 2003

AICA's Rules and Regulations require that balances on your account be paid before your paperwork can be mailed. This includes any current balances. If you send us paperwork and no check, you will be sent a notice indicating that your paperwok is complete, but you must send the balance due before we can release the papers. This applies to Whole Herd Rewards members also. WHR payment is due with the returned inventory and the remaining one-half is due prior to September 15 of the current year. If you have not paid at least one-half of your 2006 Whole Herd Rewards fee, your paperwork will be held - regardless of the birth year of the calves registered.

AICA bills transfer of ownership fees to the seller. The reason for this process is that the fees depend solely on the status of the seller regardless of who sent us the paperwork. If the seller is a non-member, then the fees are double. If the seller is enrolled in WHR, there may not be a transfer fee. If you have animals in consignment sales, the transfer fees are billed to you - not the sale manager. If you sell an animal private treaty and give signed papers to the buyer, you may end up getting billed for that transfer when thebuyer decides sends the paper in for transfer.

Registration fees are billed by the status of the owner of the mother on the birth date of the calf. If you purchase an unregistered calf from a non-member, you will be billed non-member registration fees and a non-member transfer fee, regardless of your membership status.

Easy Access to Forms — from August 2003

Save yourself a call to AICA requesting forms. AICA's website is the place to go to print out several of the most popular forms requested by members. If you go to the "registration" part of AICA's website you will see a button named "downloads". Click on this button and you will see several titles. You can print a membership application, semen transfer form, registration application, and the current AICA constitution. If you choose the Power Point option, you will view a short program about Whole Herd Reporting and the different registration options. Any forms not listed can be requested via e-mail by sending your request to me at mwegner@charolaisusa.com.

My e-mail address is also listed on the "registration" part of the AICA website. Many members also find success using the website to register and submit performance data on their animals. Click the “Registration Online” button on the home page to get started. Please read the "New User" section for valuable advise.

One of the first places to access any updated EPDs will be on AICA's website. If you have the AICA registration number of any animal, you can use the "search" area to see the new EPD numbers. You can also access the entire sire summary, see statistics regarding the current EPDs and search for members. Watch for further announcements on the website.

Any time is a good time to get caught up with calf registrations. Keep in mind, if the mother of the calf was enrolled in the WHR program the year the calf was born, the calf can be registered at any time at no charge. Some members are hesitant to send in registrations on older calves because the fees are higher. If you have been participating in WHR, there is no fee to register a calf out of an enrolled female - regardless of when you decide to register the calf.
